THE FISHING

2009 Proved to be La Fritterie's best year for big fish with 28 separate captures of fish in excess of 50lbs. Having been fished for 6 years under its present owners and previously for many years as a carp venue we cannot describe the fishing as easy. last year - 2009, we introduced a change to the minimum number of anglers down from 8 to 6,plus we assigned a few weeks with only 4 anglers. These alterations proved successful with an average of 6 fish caught per angler ,on what is considered a relatively hard big fish water. This has been continued for 2010 -2011 to give our customers less pressurised fishing with smaller parties fishing the lake.

The two big Commons of 59lb and 57lbs caught at the end of 2009 had not been out for 2- 2 1/2 years showing that you never know when these lumps are going to appear next. It could be your turn next for one of these fabulous fish !

Three new 50lb plus fish came through in 2009 with an increasing number of the 40lb fish steadily approaching 50lb. The lake was restocked in 2007 with low doubles, a good number of these have now reached 20lb plus and are growing fast.

LAKE DETAILS

  • The lake is very simple to fish being approx 9 foot deep in mid summer. Unless it's a blindingly hot summer there is very little weed and most of the fish feed in open water.
  • There are a few small plateaux with depths of around 5-7 feet but, as yet, the determining factor seems to be where you put your bait and, basically, whether they are really 'having it' or not.
  • Most of the lake is of firm clay or gravel bottom with a very small amount of silty areas which are mainly situated in the margins.
  • The 5 acre bay is reed-lined and, in the later months, some good fish can be caught by casting to the edge of these.
  • Maximum casting distance between the swims is approx 90 yards although most of the fish are caught between 25 -75 yards out, so you don't need long range casting ability.
  • Although 90% of the lake is tree-lined the swims are maintained to make for easy casting.

Due to the popularity of this exceptional lake, next seasons vacancies are selling fast, so it¹s advisable to book early to avoid disappointment.
